In bond or duty paid: what changes when you buy

A lot in bond sits in a bonded warehouse with no excise paid. When you buy it, ownership transfers by re-registration at the warehouse: the stock does not move, and no excise is due until someone takes it out. A duty-paid lot has already had excise paid in its country; moving it to another EU country means paying excise again there and claiming the first one back.

What to check on the lot

  • Duty status: in bond, duty paid, or T1 (non-EU goods not yet cleared).
  • Warehouse country: it decides where the excise event happens if the stock leaves.
  • Landed cost for your country: EXW plus excise at the destination rate, VAT and transport.

On WineGate every lot shows all three, and the order page carries the stage where ownership transfers.
